Air pollution causes cancer

I read this news on BBC!

Air pollution causes cancer and it is classed in the same category as tabacco smoke and plutonium. Recent date shows that 223,000 deathes from lung cancer around the world were caused by air pollution and more than harf of the deathes were caused in China and other east asian coutries. I think that air pollution is bad for not only environment but also our health. It is a big problem for especially China and other developing countries to have the air pollution plobrem because they are trying to develop their countries but it is also harming people who are live in those coutries with air pollution from industries. However, I think there are something that we can take action individually for air pollution, for example, plant trees or flowers to clean an air. Nowadays, the air pollution problem is one of the environmental problem but it is also one of health problem. People have to find solution for our future. I have two questions 1, Do you have some ideas to avoid cancer from air pollution? 2, What do you think that if you or your family have cancer because of air pollution?

Retirement makes people sick.

I found an interesing news on this site.

There is a man works at the medical college as a psychiatry. He is now 83 years old, but he dosen't have any plan to rerire from the job. He still sees some patients, and He said " just wants to keep up my job". A number of studies show that retirement is bad for their health. What is more, some researchers said retirement could cause a depression or heart attack or cancer.

I also think it is bad for our health to retire from the job. Especially I think person who is really keen about their job will get a lot of damages after the retirement. In Japan, we have a crierion of retirement age. Besides, I came up with a matter. When people are working, people are supposed to involve in social stimulation every day. And I wonder although people would have any troubles or problems during the work, but these things are also very good opotunity to use their brain. Therefore, I hope that after people retireing from the job, they are going to associate with social environment well.

I have two questions for you.
What do you think about the age limit?
After you became old, do you want to keep on your job?

Real-life hobbit village planned for Swedish isle

The article on Japan Times describes that a real “hobbit village” is constructed in Sweden. The village is set in an island with the abundant nature, and houses will be made of natural materials. However, it will be a modern residential area with energy-efficient infrastructure.
At first, I was attracted by a fantastic picture which illustrates the house. It never looked like a real building and I saw the name Tolkien in the article, so I though that the picture would be from a kind of fiction story. I guessed the article is about a new amusement plan like a theme park. However, I was surprised because the village is actually planed for people to live. On the other hand, I thought that the hobbit village is a good idea to gather attention of public, and let them consider environmental problems. Many people especially who love novels written by Tolkien will care about news on the village, and they also will be interested in the reason why the village is going to be built, and the concept of it.
Now, I want you to ask following two questions about this interesting village.
Which design do you prefer a modern house or a classical one?
Do you want to live an ecological house in an island?

Outcry over China plan to ban HIV patients from public baths.

I found this news on BBC!

This article says the government plan to keep out HIV patients from using bathhouses has been condemned in China, and many HIV patients have protested this practice as discriminatly. In fact, there is no evident the people can be infected with HIV in public bathhouses, so it makes us misunderstood.

I thought, it is natural to occur this strong protest by HIV patients and other people, because there is no risk of transmission of HIV. We can not be harmed by them. I've heard many misunderstanding about HIV on TV before, since then, I realized these misunderstandings and discriminations can harm the HIV patients as well this article. Generally, the government has to protect the patients not harm. So I thought the goverment should accept this critisism sincerely. HIV patients are already very vulnerable an harmed, so they should be more protected. We must not further harm them.

I have questions to you guys!
1) What do you have the image about HIV?
2) If you saw the public bathhouses like this picture, what do you feel?

Heavy typhoon

I found the article on the japan times

The japan Meteorological Agency says that a big 26th typhoon is coming to Japan, and it will arrived at Honshu on Wednesday. Also, agency says that it brings heavy rainfalls, winds, and thunderstorms.
Agency says people should be really careful at typhoon.

I was surprised at so many and heavy typhoons accessing japan this year. Because of many heavy typhoons, I  have to cancel the class. That is really troublesome for me. What is more, because of the storm, I can't go ant where, so I hope the typhoon will gone soon. In addition, japan has been damaged by a various natural disaster, and  so many serious disasters happened in japan these year, so people should be more and more carefully!!!!

What kind of preparation do you do to save your self from typhoons?

Why do you think are there so many heavy typhoon this year?

Olympic park destroyed with fire

I found a news from here.

According to the news, a fire which was broke out at a Olympic park had damaged about 80 cars and 1500 people in Sydney, Australia on Sunday. It was because of cigarette butt scattered around the place and a car exhaust pipe, which burned a glass there and spread.
Fortunately, there was no death despite that many people and cars are injured and destroyed by it. It seems to be a massive fire. Tokyo will host the Olympic in 2020 so I'm worried about something like this case after the Olympic in Tokyo. The case is not actually connected with Olympic events but if a memorial place will be destroyed by someone or something, everyone will be disappointed with this. Also the problem is the cigarette butt. The butt thrown away is small but it has sometimes fire. If there were weeds, the fire might burned something around there like this news. Smokers have to care about where they smoke and throw away.

Now i have questions about this article, What are smokers feeling when they thrown away cigarette? and do you know memorial places which was destroyed by someone in japan?

Typhoon Coming

Hey guys I found a hottest news on the web site of Japan Times. That's about typhoon, and now it is coming. Anyway, this is its URL.

Meteorological Agency said that the strong typhoon is coming across the pacific ocean and reaching Japan. On Tuesday, the strong wind area had already covered Okinawa and Kanto district as well on Wednesday.
This is the biggest typhoon in 2013 so they warned us the heavy storm and heavy rain will be brought.

Now I am worry about tomorrow's classes. On the Kuis official web site,  it said that classes before noon will be canceled.
Heavy storm always destroy many things and kill people. one month ago, another typhoon came and many people killed by that. Moreover, even if Kuis classes would be canceled, the economy won't be stopped, so our parents probably have to go their job. The traffic accident caused by it can be happened, so I worry about my father tomorrow if he can go and back to my home.
I also hope that you guys will be in safe tomorrow, and not to be encountered the accident. I think we should prepare for it, like finish shopping foods, cleaning, and laundry today.

Well, here is my questions to you guys.
1, What are you going to do today, and tomorrow?
2, what kind of accident do you imagine by typhoon?

So, peace you.

Aircraft noise has a risk of heart disease.

I found this serious story on BBC.

This article shows researcher's study of residents near the Heathrow Airport and the risk of heart and circulatory disease are 10-20 % higher in areas with much aircraft noise. The loud noise affects our blood pressure or disturbs people's sleep.

I have never use the airplane so it's not neasy to imasine the extreme noise of aircraft, but it seems to be more terrible than I expected. This research is about the Heathrow Airport but of course, it can be said that other areas which have an airport are facing the same problem. I was shocked that the loud noise of aircraft affects our blood pressure and it may cause the death of human. Also, the noise affects people's sleeping and their lives, so there are some points that should be considered and be improved or other solution should be thought for residents near the airport.

I'd like to ask questions for you.
1. Have you ever use the aircraft? If yes, how did you feel about the noise of it?
2. Do you think reducing the noise of aircraft is possible?

Chaos in Syria

I read an article about the chaos in Syria on BBC this week.
It is revealed that the rebel forces in Syria killed as many as 190 civilians and seized more than 200 hostages during the military offensive in August. The rebels and the Syrian government forces have been accused of abuses.
We live peacefully and live without this kind of threats where you could be injured, wounded or killed all of a sudden. Actually, I hardly realize that a war is taking place in a country on the same planet. Guns, rocket launchers, or tanks are completely out of our reach in Japan. I wish there were no such firearms in the world. If so, not so many people would be in danger. It is impossible to completely eliminate those weapons from the earth, but we should consider the issues a worldwide problem, and all nations on earth should pay careful attention and try to resolve the weapon control case.

Q1. What would you do if you were terrorized by somebody/something under the circumstances where a weapon is in your reach? Why?
Q2. If you are participating in a demonstration that could end up being violent, would you bring weapons?

Sad news to chocolate lovers

Hello. I found a shocking article on CNN.

According to the article, the price of chocolates is rising because of growing demand in new markets and bad weather in countries which produce cacaos. Actually, the price of cocoa butter has risen by 70%, and the production cost of milk chocolate bars has rapidly increased by 25%.

This news completely demotivated me and made me feel down because I am a chocolate lover. I basically eat black chocolates rather than milk chocolates or others, and of course, black chocolates contain more cacaos, so I can easily understand that the price of black chocolates is going to rise rapidly. I realized that this has caused bad things to not only chocolates lovers like me but also workers who raise cacao beans as their jobs. Obviously, their everyday lives depend on the cacao beans (chocolates), but they were not able to produce a lot of cacao beans due to the bad weather, so their income is going to decrease although the price of chocolates is rising.

Then, I came up with 2 questions for you.
1, Do you keep buying what you really like even if its price rises rapidly?
2, How would you guarantee their stable income if you were an agent between cacao beans workes and retail stores?

Visa rules for Chinese coming to the UK to be relaxed

I found this article on BBC.

The UK Chancellor George Osborne announced that visa applications for Chinese visiting the UK will become simpler. By this plan, Chinese people visiting the EU will not need to submit separate UK visa applications to travel to the UK. It can promote business deals between the UK and China.

I am not familiar with visa rules, but I think it is good that visa applications for Chinese will be simplified because it can bring benefit not only to the business, but also to a friendship between the UK and China. According to this article, currently Chinese people can visit many of the European countries with a single visa, but they need a separate one to travel to the UK. By introducing this plan, however, they will not need to submit separate visa applications and it will become easy for them to visit the UK. I do not know how Japanese visitors’ visa is, so I want to research more about visa.

Questions:
・What do you think about this news?
・Have you ever gotten visa? Which country?

'Diamond rain' falls on Saturn and Jupiter

I found an interesting and suprising article on BBC.

US scientists have calculated that diamonds which celebrities will be likely to wear can fall on the planet. There are much carbon the gas giants such as Jupiter and Saturn, a new shows. As the form of methain is changed by thunderstorm, it eventually become diamond.

If the research prove it is true, I think we people all over the world hope to know about how diamond will appear more or less because of its scarcity value. Although several people should know that the diamond is composed of carbon, many of ordinary people about it in detail. The 2010 study shows that these planets' surface is coverd with graphite while the earth is surrounded by water and granite. I think it is interesting contrast between values of something important to us. As the technolgy advancies so that people can get diamonds, our interest and expectation for it will increase.

Now please let me ask you some questions.

1. For whom do you think diamonds is imortant?
2. What do you think will be regarded as important if diamonds become much more common in the world after the technology advances in the future?

Lost in the wilderness: 72-year-old man survives 19 days, eating lizards, squirrels

I found an interesting article from CNN.

A man who is 72 years old lost his way in the forest during hunting deer and was rescued from severe survival. He survived with a diet of lizards, frogs, and squirrels for 19 days. When I read this news I was very surprised, and I imagined that if I were the man I was not able to survived like this. According to this news, when he knew he got lost he managed to think how to survive, what to eat and drink, and how to stay warm. I felt that his energy to live made me have a rethink on what should I do in an emergency. There is a possibility that a dangerous accident or unexpected natural disaster will happen around me in the future, so it is very important to prepare enough provisions for emergency or discuss how to contact with family beforehand. Of course, what to do to live after the incident is very important, but things that we can prepare for the incident is also essential and it will help us in case of a dengerous situation.

I'd like to ask you following questions.
1, What would you do first, when you got lost in a forest?
2, Have you prepared emergency provisions in your house, or decided how to contact with your family in en emergency?

"Baby Hope"

Today, I read this article on CNN.

21 years ago, the little girl who was known “Baby Hope” was murdered but no one came forward as a family or relative, and then last Saturday, New York police published that the identity of “Baby Hope” was turned out and also they found her mother out by DNA testing.

According to the article, the little girl’s decomposed body was found in an ice chest by the side of a New York roadway in 1991, but nobody came forward as a relative at that time, so the nameless girl was named “Baby Hope” by New York Police Detectives. Then, 21 years later, the police announced that her mother and true name “Angelica” finally turned out. Moreover, the police arrested a man who is Angelica’s cousin and killed her. When I read this article, I felt sadness because Angelica was only four years old but she received cruel treatment and passed away. Also I wonder why did not her parents or other relatives stop the abuse and come forward.

Now, I want to ask you that 1) how do you feel about child abuse, and 2) what do you think why no one said he or she is a parent or a relative or Angelica?

Change your relationship with your phone.

I read this interesting article on BBC.

Today, checking our smartphone has become a bad habit. Moreover this is a big problem for society, so one man designed seven “smarter smartphone” rules which could be break the routine and to remember the importance of moment.
When I read this article, I noticed that I spent a lot of time on smartphone. Actually, I know that it is a bad routine and waste of times so I want to stop using it frequently. It is a not easy because I take out my smartphone from my bag almost unconsciously. Luckily, I could find the way to stop using smartphone therefore I will try to these rules from now to transform my relationship with my i phone. Here, are seven “smarter smartphone” rules. 1. Talk now, text later, 2. Take a phone-free day, 3. Avoid being a search-it-all, 4. Elbows and phones off the table, 5. Look before you snap, 6. Taste before you upload, 7. Kiss your phone goodnight

Questions
1.    How long do you spend to use your smartphone a whole day?
2.    Will you change your bad smartphone habit? How will you change it?

Why Do People Kiss?

I read an interesting news this week.

Why do people kiss? The new research show that one big reason is that size up their future mates. The scientists from Oxford University explored the link between kissing and relationship quality and the differences in value of kissing between men and women. Women tend to think that kissing is important in a relationship but men do not think so.

I heard that there is a race which do not know kissing in other class. I was surprised at that thing. On the other hand, kissing is greeting in some country. So it was interesting for me to know about it. I did not think that kissing is the way to find future husband or wife. It is ashamed to talk about kissing or kiss in front of other people in Japan. That is Japanese culture, but now I know kissing is important for people. It was interesting to notice that there are different meanings of kissing in each country. The cultures show that the characteristics of each country.

Have you ever seen someone kissing in front of you? How did you feel?
Have you ever kissed foreigners as greeting?

Apology: How Japanese Do

I read the article from Japan Times this week.

Japanese tend to apologize, typically to show their attitude and ask forgiveness for what they did. Nowadays, especially, the apologizing culture is focused on in Japan. However, it is not as effective way as it used to be because of people’s overuse and discovery, the author says.

Last month, the Japanese popular Drama, Hanzawa-Naoki, ended with the huge number of audience. And Movie, Shazai-no-Osama, was released a month ago. Both stories include the act of apology, which symbolize that Japan is an apologizing country. The article introduced a story; a woman who complained with the merchandise which she bought ordered to employees to do Dogeza and she took the picture and posted them on Twitter with their name, which is stupid. I do realize that this action doesn't really make others feel understand or forgive anyway, so there is no point to perform in the way of Dogeza, I suppose. I heard that many of the people in the other countries do not apologize easily because Apology becomes the fact indicating that they admitted of their fault. I believe this is true. We are too much using the ward “I’m sorry.” even though they didn't something wrong. It might be Japanese culture but to be global society for Japan this leads us to a disadvantageous position. We should stop doing it unless we truly have done something wrong.

Question
1 Why do you think we tend to apologize easily to the others?
2 Do you think this action is disadvantage for Japanese in this global society? Why or why not?

The Japanese new tax policy

This week, I read about new policy against the tax in The Japan Times.
Shinzo Abe, the Japanese Prime Minister, mentioned the only thing we can do for the revivals of the economy and the restoration of the exchequer is only to increase of the consumption tax. However, there is a bad possibility that the higher tax will cause the decrease of the approval rating toward “Abenomics.”
The increase of the consumption tax will start in April 2014. Many Japanese people think that it is inevitable to hike the tax because Japan has enormous arrears. In my opinion, it is okay to the increase the tax but before that, increasing the tobacco and liquor taxes should be given preference over the others. That is because both of them, especially tobacco, have the extremely dreadful effects on people’s health. Among the developed countries, Japan does not have high taxed on tobacco. If the tax increased, Japanese people can be healthier, the environment can be cleaner and the debt of Japan can be improved.
I have two questions to you. Are you for or against the tax hike? Why? What do you think about the new policy? Will it be the cause of a fall in the approval rating of government?

The Girl was killed by stalker

I found this article on The Japan Times.

A high school student, Saaya Suzuki who is 18 years old was killed by her stalker on Tuesday evening. She and her parents went to the police to inform the stalker Charles Thomas Ikenaga, but she was murdered in that day. Ikenaga said “I waited for her near her home with intent to kill her”. Suzuki was stabbed with a knife several times. I cannot understand why she was killed. Ikenaga had the intention to kill her, but I do not think that she had the reason to be killed. And I feel very sad to hear that she wanted to be an actress. Her dream will not come true forever. And also I am frightened “stalker” like him. I want every woman to be careful when you walk alone outside. This case tells us that the danger of stalker. And the problem of stalker is very serious, so we should reconsider. And of course, I want police to find out the motive for the crime.

Question
1 Have you experienced stalking?
2 How should we work out a countermeasure for stalker?

new types of library

I found the interesting article from CNN.

The article says that the new types of library consisted of only e-books is opened in Texas. It’s a library, but there are no real books. We can borrow and return e-books through the Internet. However, there are some problems such as the lack of spreading Internet, so it needs to be improved. For me, it is very interesting to run the library which treats only e-books because there are no any books even though this is a ‘library’. I don’t use and read e-books now, but it is very easy to carry a lot of stories and convenient because we can read them anywhere we want, so I want to use them. However, this library has some problems of internet or poverty. Some families don’t have computers and others can’t receive Internet. It means that this library is not useful for such families to use, so I think these problems should be improved first. Then, this library would be easy to utilize.

I have two questions for you. 1, Have you ever used e-books? Which is better for you to use e-books or paper books? 2, Do you agree this kind of library(consisted of only e-books)?

The good time for your sleeping.

I found an interesting article!

A fact that sleeping six and half an hour is good for your body was proved by a research. The researchers who are member of the University of Surrey’s Sleep Research Centre informed that to keep the sleeping habit gives some advantages to you for example decreasing rate of diabetes and risk of cancer.

It was surprising fact for me because I did not know the best time for sleeping. Sometimes I have been said that eight hours is best time by my parents but sometimes other person said that seven hours is good. Then there are several ideas toward the time so I wonder which suggestion is reliable. However in this time, the question was solved by them, so I thought that I want to try to change my sleeping habit. Also I want to share the idea with my friends and change lifestyle of friends who are likely to lack of sleep!

Then, I want to ask you some questions.
Q1 Do you take enough time for your sleeping every day?
Q2 After you read this article, will you change your sleeping habit?

Discrimination?

I found an article on CNN.

[Summary] Andrea Agnelli's who is Juventus president said: If you had a passport for one country, you have to be permitted to play football for that country as a player of national team. This argument caused after Roy Hodgson who is England’s national manager showed that he had expected Adnan Januzaj to succeed. Adnan Januzaj was born in Belgium and he is 18 now. He could play for England if he stayed in that country until he is 23. However, one British player disagreed with this.

[Reflection] This article is very interesting for me because football is familiar to me and it is my favorite sport. I think this problem is kind of discrimination. However, I guess Japanese do not concern about racial discrimination because japan do not receive immigrants so much. Anyway, sports and this problem should be considered as different matters. In Japan national football team, some former-foreigners have played football for Japan. Now, Mike Havenaar who has Dutch parents is playing for Japan’s glory. If a player has a feeling to win the game for a particular country, it would not be a problem where he is born.

[Question]
Q1. What do you think about foreigners play a sport for the Japan’s national team?

Q2. Do you think a racial discrimination will be faded away?
